Role Outline

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious Occupational Hygienist to join Hygiene Partners, part of the Health Partners Group, on a full time (37.5 hours per week) basis, working Monday to Friday.

 

The role will suit a Hygienist looking for professional development, ultimately toward Diploma and Chartered status. You will be part of a multidisciplinary OH practice where you will benefit from working with some of the best OH practitioners in the country, whilst also supporting clinical colleagues with your knowledge of workplace health risks and their control.

 

Hygiene Partners provide occupational hygiene strategy, management and corporate health risk profiling services as well as carrying out workplace exposure assessments and advising on controls. We seek to optimise client investment in occupational health and hygiene, ensuring the commitment is proportionate to risk.

 

The Occupational Hygienist will report to the Occupational Hygiene Director and will carry out the following activities;

1.    Perform occupational hygiene assessments and surveys addressing a range of chemical, physical and biological agents e.g. airborne hazardous substances, workplace noise, hand-arm vibration, whole-body vibration, thermal stress, ergonomic factors, EMF, LEV examination and test etc.
2.    Assist with corporate health risk profiling, workplace ill health investigations and developing occupational hygiene programmes.
3.    Work with occupational health colleagues to integrate occupational hygiene related aspects into occupational health provision.
4.    Provide support to occupational health colleagues as required to address preventative elements of workplace health risk management and advice relating to workplace exposures.
5.    Assist as required with preparation and delivery of training and information materials on occupational hygiene related topics.

Location

We are inviting applications from hygienists based in the North of the country, including Scotland, to support our activities in this region. The role is home based with travel - candidates must be prepared to visit sites primarily across the North of the UK, and possibly overseas, from time to time.

Qualifications and Experience

The Occupational Hygienist should ideally possess or be near to achieving the Certificate of Operational Competence in Occupational Hygiene. The Occupational Hygienist should preferably have at least five years work experience although consideration will be given to outstanding early career candidates.

 

A full clean UK driver’s license is required.

Skills

Analytical approach and a high level of attention to detail
Negotiating skills and the capacity to persuade others to achieve results and initiate action
Operational decision-making skills
Ability to work effectively independently and also within a team framework
Good technical and IT skills for using specialist equipment
Several years experience of full time work in the occupational hygiene field, addressing a wide range of occupational hygiene topics
Experience with implementation and development of workplace health risk management programmes is desirable, although full training can be provided
Experience working in liaison with clinical occupational health staff is desirable, but not essential
Willingness to travel; Full UK driving licence and own transport

Salary

The salary range on offer for this position is between £35,000 to £50,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.

Certificate of Operational Competence in Occupational Hygiene (CertOH)
