Associate Data Scientist

Date Posted:  4 Sept 2025
Department:  IT
Location:

UK Homebased, GB

Role Outline

Health Partners is one of the UK’s leading providers of occupational health and wellbeing solutions, we work with organisations across a wide range of industries to support the physical and mental health of their employees.

We have a growing data estate containing sensitive personal and medical information. We are looking for a Data Scientist with solid expertise in traditional machine learning, deep learning, and modern Large Language Model (LLM) frameworks to help us harness this data for innovation and automation. You will work closely with our IT Department, alongside an engineering team that is modernizing our application and data-processing pipelines to support our continued growth.

Key Responsibilities

LLM Integration: Research, prototype, and deploy LLM-based solutions (e.g., using LangChain, Mastra.ai, Pydantic) to improve our clinical services and patient care applications, such as text-based Q&A, summarization, and document processing.

•    ML Development: Utilize traditional (scikit-learn) and deep learning (PyTorch, TensorFlow/Keras, XGBoost) frameworks to build, train, and tune predictive models.

•    Data Orchestration: Work with tools like Spark and Kafka to orchestrate robust data pipelines, enabling real-time and batch data ingestion, transformation, and feature creation.

•    MLOps & Model Lifecycle: Employ Databricks, MLflow, or similar platforms to streamline the model development lifecycle, from experimentation and prototyping through deployment and monitoring in production environments.

•    Scalable Architecture: Collaborate with the Engineering and DevOps teams to design cloud-native services on Azure (or equivalent) that are resilient, efficient, and secure.

•    Data Governance & Compliance: Handle sensitive medical data responsibly, adhering to all relevant regulations (ISO20000, ISO27001, ISO9001). Ensure best practices in data security and governance are applied throughout the ML lifecycle.

•    Continuous Improvement: Stay current on trends in data science, ML frameworks, and LLM technology, and share learnings with the broader team to foster innovation and best practices.

What we are looking for

Technical Expertise
Proven experience with LLM frameworks (e.g., LangChain, Mastra.ai, or Pydantic) and understanding of transformer-based architectures.

Hands-on proficiency in Python and core ML/DL libraries (scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow/Keras).

Experience building end-to-end pipelines — from data ingestion and preprocessing to model deployment and monitoring.

Familiarity with data orchestration tools like Spark and Kafka, including real-time streaming and batch processing.

Proficiency in using Databricks, MLflow, or similar tools for managing experiments, models, and workflows.

Sound understanding of relational databases (SQL Server), as well as alternative data storage solutions (e.g., Cosmos DB).

•    Cloud & Infrastructure
Experience architecting and maintaining solutions in Microsoft Azure (or a comparable cloud environment): App Services, Azure Active Directory, Service Bus, Blob Storage, etc.

Solid grasp of containerization and related technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) is advantageous.

•    Security & Compliance
Practice in handling and processing personally identifiable information (PII) and other sensitive data securely.

Understanding of industry regulations and compliance frameworks (ISO20000, ISO27001, ISO9001).

•    Collaboration & Communication

Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team including data science, software engineering, and product teams.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills to articulate complex technical topics to a variety of stakeholders.

Passion for continuous learning and development, including sharing knowledge with others.
